Project Director – Major Rail Station

Location: Toronto, Canada | Sector: Major Infrastructure Programme | Salary: Excellent Salary 

Description

Our client, a leading international contractor, is looking to recruit a Project Director initially to lead their Joint Venture bid, ECI phase and subsequent construction delivery phase for a major $1bn+ rail station expansion project in central Toronto. This will be procured under an alliancing contract with the contractor JV working collaboratively with the client team through an ECI phase, to agree a target cost and transition into delivery. This is a great opportunity to join a well-respected civil engineering contractor that is growing significantly in North America to lead a large high-profile project in Toronto.

Responsibilities

  • Be accountable for the bid, ECI phase and delivery of the project, ensuring it is completed safely, on time, in accordance with the contract requirements and to the agreed budget.
  • Design the project organisation structure – build and organise the team.
  • Work with the Proposals Director to bring together the required operational input to develop and challenge the construction and engineering methodology.
  • Challenge convention during the bid phase and push the team to look for improved methods of working, developing a project execution plan that differentiates our client from the competition.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with the Client and other project stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Work with the joint venture management team to develop and deliver strategic initiatives and business plan objectives.
  • Lead the design process for design-build contracts and follow on implementation and handover.
  • Ensure that the project works are planned and scheduled at an appropriate level of detail.
  • Ensure the programme is updated regularly to enable identification of change and early warning of any potential issues and causes for concern.
  • Support the Project Commercial Director with the development of a detailed cost forecast for the project.
  • Support the Construction Director with development of resource forecasts.
  • Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHES department.

Requirements

  • 10+ years relevant experience in a Project Director or equivalent project leadership role for a major contractor.
  • Design and construction leadership experience on major infrastructure projects and programmes, including rail stations project experience.
  • Extensive experience in contracting organisations.
  • Experience of driving change programmes.
  • Experience leading collaborative and progressive construction contracts.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, and the integrity to develop trust and respect.
  • A collaborative team player.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritise objectives and work to deadlines.
