Movers and Shakers in Transport & Infrastructure- The headlines from September

September for Britain has been an uncertain one. We’ve seen May’s Chequers plan rejected by the EU, calls for a rail reform, a tropical storm and now a heatwave…

But despite this, the transport and infrastructure sectors have been as busy as ever, let’s take a look at who’s made a move in September…

HS2
Paul Griffiths, Managing Director for phase two of the line is to leave the company to become Programme Director on Canada’s $40bn Metrolinx project. Griffiths joined as Development Director in 2015, was promoted to Managing Director of phase two in September last year.

Balfour Beatty
Have announced the appointment of Dave Smith as Managing Director of Balfour’s regional construction business in the south of England. He joins from the McLaren Group where he was Managing Director of its construction business.

SNC-Lavalin ATKINS
Daressa Frodsham has joined as Head of UK Water. She will be responsible for driving growth in the water sector for the consultancy. Frodsham leaves Ricardo Energy & Environment where she has been since 2016.

Ian Chapman has also joined as Client Director – Regional Programmes South in the rail business. Chapman joins from Alstom where he has been Business Development Director since 2016 for the signalling, systems & infrastructure business.

Keltbray
Keltbray’s structural solutions business’ Managing Director, Gordon Dunne, has resigned from the firm. Keltbray Structures COO Andy McClafferty will now assume the role of MD at the business.

Sir Robert McAlpine
Miles Shelley, CFO, has retired from his role at the contractor following 25 years in the position. Leighton More will succeed him as its new CFO. Mr More joins from Costain, where he has been the Finance Director for its infrastructure division.

Nichols Group
Former HS2 Chief Executive, Simon Kirby is joining as an Associate Senior Advisor. Kirby left his position as Chief Operating Officer at Rolls-Royce, after just 19 months at the business.

Associated British Ports
Henrik Lundgaard Pedersen has been appointed as CEO, he leaves the Maersk-owned terminal operator, APM where he has served as Chief Commercial Officer since January 2017.

HB Reavis
Have announced the appointment of Steven Skinner as its new UK Chief Executive. Skinner joined HB Reavis UK in April 2017 as a Transactional Director, he will take up the position as UK Chief Executive with immediate effect

CAF Rail UK
Have appointed Kane Jellyman as Head of Production at their new Newport assembly hub. Jellyman leaves Bombardier where he has been Production Manager.

Transport for the North (TfN)
Have announced that Richard George has been appointed by government to oversee both infrastructure and train operations in the region. George has served as chairman of the boards of FirstGroup, First Great Western, First Great Eastern and First North Western, and is currently global head of rail infrastructure at SNC-Lavalin.

Rock Rail

Have appointed Mike Kean to the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer heading up Rock Rail’s asset management business. Kean leaves Abellio where he has been Franchise and Programmes Director and Deputy Managing Director for Greater Anglia. He will be succeeded by Ian McConnell who moves internally from ScotRail.

WSP

Have hired three new directors for its transport and infrastructure divisions. Andrew Dodds joins from Network Rail as Deputy Group Director of rail engineering services for the South, Steve Burrows becomes Deputy Group Director for rail engineering services in the North, and Iain Salisbury is the new Design-and-Build Director for the highways team based in Glasgow, leaving Jacobs.

VolkerWessels

Simon White has joined as the company’s new Chief Digital Officer.  White was previously Digital Director at Atkins.

South West Water
Have appointed Matt Crabtree as its new Engineering Director, succeeding Graham Murphy, who is taking early retirement after more than 27 years with the company.  Crabtree joins from Costain where he was Water Sector Director.

Third Energy
The Chairman and the Senior Independent director of Third Energy have resigned after the company’s efforts to frack in North Yorkshire stalled. Keith Cochrane, Chairman, is a former chief executive of Weir Group and was Interim Chief Executive of Carillion in the months leading up to its collapse. Baron Gadhia of Northwood, its senior independent director, is a former investment banker.

Ricardo Rail

Have appointed Olivier André as Managing Director for Ricardo Rail Consulting UK. He joins from Porterbrook where he was Commercial Director.

Angel Trains

Andrew Kleczkowski has been promoted to Head of Commercial. Kleczkowski has been with Angel Trains since 1998, most recently as Senior Commercial Manager.

SNC-Lavalin

BAM Nuttall’s Highways Strategic Director, Bill Gifford, has left to join SNC-Lavalin in Canada, he has taken on the role of Senior Vice President General Infrastructure.

Prior to forming Newsom Consulting, Jim spent 11 years working for the one of the UK’s largest independently owned executive recruiters and then two years at a boutique search firm. Jim is a graduate in civil engineering from Liverpool University.
