While May is feeling the heat at the Brexit negotiation table, the Met office have warned that the rest of us will be sweating under the collar too if the world continues increasing CO2 emissions. But if all Brexit and climate change efforts should fail, then we can always join the selfie taking robot on Mars.
Let’s take a look at who is making the headlines in transport and infrastructure this month…
London City Airport
The former Chair for High Speed 1 (HS1), Eurostar UK Ltd and Chief Executive Officer of Crossrail, Rob Holden has been appointed as the new Chair of London City Airport. He replaces Sir Terry Morgan, who stepped down in September to take up the HS2 Chair position.
Aberdeen Airport
Have appointed Steve Szalay as its new Managing Director. He leaves jet2.com where he was Director, Ground Operations.
Heathrow Airport
Have announced that Emma-Jane Houghton will be joining the airport as Delivery Commercial Director for the Expansion Programme in February 2019. Houghton will be joining Heathrow from KPMG, where she worked as a Director for the Infrastructure Advisory group since January 2014.
Heathrow Express
Have appointed Les Freer as Director replacing Fraser Brown who becomes Retail Director at Heathrow Airport. Freer joins from Heathrow Airport where he has been Head of Ground Handling, Strategy and Licencing.
Sophie Chapman has also been appointed as Head of Operations. Chapman, was Interim Head of Customer Service.
Arcadis
Have announced the appointment of Steve Bromhead as its new UK Chief Operating Officer, following former COO Peter Madden’s move to head-up operations for Arcadis’ newly formed Europe, Middle East and UK region. Bromhead has been with Arcadis for more than 20 years, most recently leading Arcadis’ global HSBC programme.
Arcadis have also appointed Tom Morgan as UK Client Development Director, overseeing innovation and growth across the business.
Exyte
Malcolm Louth joins as HR Director for EMEA, leaving AECOM where he has been Senior Director, HR Transformation for EMEIA. Exyte is the new name for the core business of international engineering and construction group M+W.
Network Rail
Dave Smale joins as Head of Maintenance Delivery, Anglia, leaving Amey where he has been Operations Director.
Van Elle
John Foster has joined from Saint-Gobain as Commercial Director and Peter Handley has been appointed from Cementation Skanska as Strategy and Business Improvement Director.
Schiphol
Tony Chisnall joins as the new Director of their Capital Programme. Chisnall has previously served as Programme Director at Abu Dhabi Airports Company and Commercial Director and Project Director of Heathrow Terminal 5. He succeeds Bernardo Gogna.
Jacobs
Kate Kenny rejoins as Director of Growth for London and Cities having left to join Arcadis last year.
Wates
Mark Tant becomes Managing Director for Wates Construction, having been promoted from leading its residential work in London. Richard Shroll, currently MD for Wates Residential North, will take over his role in London.
Regional Business Unit Directors Paul Dodsworth and John Carlin have also changed roles. Dodsworth becomes Regional MD for Construction in the North and John Carlin is promoted to the role of Regional MD for
Construction in the Midlands, from his current position as Business Unit Director.
They have also appointed Lia Silva as Development Director. Silva joins from Ballymore Group.
Rock Rail
George Bearfield has been appointed Health & Safety Director. He joins from the Rail Safety and Standards Board and will be starting in January.
British Water
Have named its new Chief Executive as Lila Thompson, who has been promoted from her position as International Director. She replaces current Chief Executive Lloyd Martin who steps down 3rd December.
Sir Robert McAlpine
Have appointed Edward McAlpine as their new Chairman. This comes as Gavin McAlpine prepares to step down after 3 years in the post. Edward McAlpine will take on the role from 1 January next year, moving up from his Executive Partner position on the board.
National Express
Have appointed David Bradford as Managing Director of National Express West Midlands. He moves internally from his role as Commercial Director and succeeds Paul Thomas who joined Stagecoach.
Flowbird Transport
The smart ticketing manufacturer formerly known as Parkeon have appointed Steve Clarke as Global Head of Software Engineering.
Emeg
Adrian Woodhead has joined the specialist rail M&E contractor as their new Operations Director. Woodhead leaves Interserve where he was Senior Contracts Manager.
