Movers and Shakers in Transport & Infrastructure the Headlines from May 2024

The general election has been announced in what may be the soggiest announcement on record. Perhaps foreshadowing the met offices warning that we are in for the wettest summer on record…

It’s a better forecast for this month’s movers and shakers, in yet another bumper month. Check out all the latest updates.

HS2

Have announced the appointment of Mark Wild as the new Chief Executive Officer. The former Crossrail boss is set to leave SGN where he has been CEO since 2022.

London City Airport

Have announced the appointment of Alison FitzGerald as the new Chief Executive Officer. This is an internal appointment, having previously been the airport’s Chief Operating Officer since 2016.

Enervo

Chief Executive Officer, Zak Houlahan, has announced his departure from the company. He has been replaced by the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Peter Schoeneberg who will become Managing Director following the sale back to SSE.

Mace

Chief Executive Officer Mark Reynolds is stepping down from his role. He will remain as Chairman, with the current Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Executive Officer of Mace Consult, Jason Millett, taking over as CEO in January 2025.

Davendra Dabasia, current Chief Operating Officer at Mace Consult, will succeed Millett as CEO of the Consult division.

Mace Construct Chief Executive Gareth Lewis will also step down in July, and will be replaced by current Construct Chief Operating Officer Andrew Jackson.

Mace have also appointed Neil Stevenson as Operations Director, Aviation. Stevenson joins from Morgan Sindall, where he Project Director- Energy Sector- Precontract.

And, Tim Coucher joins as an Operations Director based in New York. Coucher leaves Network Rail, where he was Alliance Director for the Southern Integrated Delivery (SID) team.

Renew Holdings plc

Simon Ellison has been appointed as Group Rail Sector Director. Ellison left Costain Group last year, where he was National Highways, Client Director.

Northern

Have announced the appointment of Tricia Williams as Managing Director. Williams has been Chief Operating Officer at Northern for the past four years.

The role of Chief Operating Officer has been succeeded by Matt Rice who joins from Network Rail, where he was Route Director for the North and East Route.

Tilt Consulting

Jason Groombridge joins the rail consultancy as Director. Groombridge joins from Porterbrook, where he was Director of Safety & Engineering Services.

Burns & McDonnell

Tony Chen has been appointed as Commercial Director – UK & Europe. Chen joins from ISG, where he was Divisional Commercial Director for Engineering Services.

Arriva Rail London

Anjuli Ramburuth has been appointed as Finance Director. Ramburuth joins from Arriva UK Bus, where she was Head of Finance, and succeeds Steve Best, who became Managing Director in January.

Go Ahead London

Tom Joyner has joined as Managing Director for the Bus business. Joyner leaves CrossCountry Trains, where he was also Managing Director.

Caddick Construction

Steve Ford has been appointed as Regional Managing Director for Yorkshire and the North East. Ford joins from Marrico Asset Management, where he was Development Director.

Galliford Try

Have announced the appointment of David Lowery as its first Divisional Managing Director of Infrastructure on the board, responsible for the Infrastructure and Environment business unit strategies. Lowery joined the business three years ago and has most recently been Managing Director for Highways.

Glennan Blackmore will succeed David as Managing Director of Galliford Try’s Infrastructure business unit in August, joining the business from Skanska, where he most recently led the highways sector.

Anglian Water

Have announced the appointment of Mark Thurston as the new Chief Executive Officer. The former HS2 boss takes up his new role on 1st July. 

Have appointed John Whitehurst as Chief Operating Officer. Whitehurst joins from Serco, where he was Managing Director for Transport & Community Services.

Buro Happold

Paula Gough has been appointed as UK Development Director for Highways. Gough joins from Costain, where she was Key Account Director for National Highways.

RWE

Nikolaus Valerius has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of RWE Generation S.E. Valerius has been with RWE for the past nine years, most recently as Chief Operating Officer.

East West Railway Company

David Hughes has been announced as the new Chief Executive Officer. Hughes joins from Arup, where he was Major Programmes Director.

Robertson Construction

Have announced the appointment of Ian Phillips as the new Regional Managing Director of its Northern Business, Scotland. Phillips moves internally, from his role as Operations Director.

Ricky Brown will succeed him as Operations Director. Brown joins from Morgan Sindall where he was Senior Operations Manager.

Kilnbridge

Have announced the appointment of Owen Dannatt as Chief Executive Officer. Dannatt joins from Sellar, where he was Chief Operating Officer. This follows the news that Dermot McDermott, will take up the role of Chairman after 33 years at the helm.

National Grid ESO

Have appointed Andreia de Melo Cabral as Chief People Officer. She joins from Bionical Emas, where she was also Chief People Officer.

TopHat

The modular builder have announced the departure of Managing Director, Andrew Shepherd. Shepherd leaves after four years at the company.

Rail Industry Association (RIA)

Noel Travers has been appointed as Chairman. Travers is currently Managing Director of Xrail Group Ltd and a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

TXM Consult

Have announced the appointment of James Howles as Interim Head of Infrastructure. Howles joins from BakerHicks, where he was Director, Rail.
