Movers and Shakers in Transport & Infrastructure – The Headlines from February 2021

February has certainly been a month of hope and positivity, from the ongoing success of the vaccination rollout to the government’s lockdown roadmap back to normality, and kids returning to school on March 8th, things are beginning to look up! We’ve also seen some exciting changes in the transport and infrastructure sectors this month.

 

Let’s take a look at this month’s movers and shakers…

HS2

Earlier this month HS2 chair Allan Cook announced his resignation, he will be leaving the role at the end of July.

 

Alun Griffiths

Stephen Tomkins has recently joined regional civil engineering specialist Alun Griffiths to take up the role of Managing Director, he leaves his role at Balfour Beatty as UK Construction Services Ops Director for the North and Midlands.

 

Alstom & Bombardier

Nick Crossfield will remain as Managing Director for the UK & Ireland following the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation, he held the same role for Alstom prior to its acquisition.

 

Matt Byrne, previously Bombardier’s President, UK & Ireland becomes Alstom’s new global Head of Services.

 

Angel Trains

Angel Trains has recently appointed Mark Russell CBE as its new Chairman, he succeeds Tom Smith who steps down from the role after two successful three-year terms.

 

Kier

Hugh Raven, company secretary and legal counsel also the longest-serving member of Kier’s executive management team has recently stood down from his position, Phil Higgins succeeds him.

 

Mace

Mace construction boss Mark Castle who has been with the firm since 2004 will be stepping down from his role as Chief Operations Officer in April to take up a Non-Executive Director role at the firm, he will be internally replaced by Andrew Jackson.

 

Urban Transport Group

The Managing Director of Transport for West Midlands Laura Shoaf has recently been announced as the first female chairman of the Urban Transport Group, she succeeds Stephen Edwards following the end of his two-year term.

 

Deloitte

Christie Fearnside has recently joined Deloitte as Director (Transport), she leaves her role as Managing Consultant at PA Consulting.

 

HSE

Peter Baker has recently been appointed as Chief Inspector of Buildings to lead the new Building Safety Regulator. Peter has over 30 years HSE experience and takes up the post with immediate effect.

 

Interserve Construction

Mark Buckle has recently been promoted to Technical Director reporting to the main board, he will help shape the business to support the government’s strategy set out in the recently published Construction Playbook.

 

Women in Rail Wales

Christine Fernandes, Business Development UK & NI at CAF UK has recently been announced as the new Chair of WR Wales.

 

Power and Infrastructure Resourcing Ltd (part of ENGIE Group)

Adrian Head has recently joined the company as Business Development Director, Adrian has prior experience at Carbon360 and Morson.

Lendlease

Global Chief Executive Steve McCann will be stepping down at the end of May after 12 years in the role.  He will be succeeded by Tony Lombardo current Chief Executive for Asia who will take up the role from June 1st.

 

Peter Leonard has also recently been appointed as Chief Operating Officer of the company development business, he will be taking up the role from late March and will leave his current role as Executive General Manager for the commercial and central operations at its construction division.

 

Galliford Try

Steve Slessor has recently been promoted to Environment Chief, he succeeds Ian Jones who is retiring after 41 years with the company. Paul Ingham will take over Steve’s role as Regional Director for Environment Activities in Scotland.

 

AECOM

Patricia Ribeiro-Carvalho-Vieira has been appointed as a director to its board, she moves up from CFO for continental Europe to CFO for Europe. Her appointment comes after former CFO for UK and Ireland Cheryl McCall left the business last November.

 

RSSB

George Davies has recently been appointed as RSSB’s new Director of Sustainable Development; he leaves his role as Head of Sustainability at Heathrow Airport.

 

Skanska

Swati Patel will be joining Skanska in April as an Executive Vice President where she will be heading up the legal function of Skanska UK, she will be leaving her current role as General Counsel and Company Secretary for London Luton Airport.

 

Esh Group

Alistair Law has recently been promoted to Finance Director for the construction team; he succeeds Mark Sowerby.

 

Stantec

John Owens has recently left his role at Sweco where he was Major Projects Director to join Stantec as Director of Roads.

 

Keltbray

Joe Jackson, Keltbray Remediation boss has recently stepped down from the company to start his own new firm, Jackson Remediation. His new business will be offering contaminated land assessment and remediation design, remediation construction and enabling works and waste management.

 

Sellafield

Former Crossrail chairman Tony Meggs has been appointed for a three-year term as Sellafield’s new Chairman, he will take up the role in May, replacing Lorraine Baldry who has chaired the board since 2018.

 

Taziker

Robert Paterson and Darren Jackson two of Taziker Industrial’s senior managers have recently been promoted to the board of directors. Robert has responsibility for ensuring that the contractual and commercial integrity of the business is maintained, whilst Darren will be taking up the role of Managing Director of Client Services.

 

Durkan

Former Mears new homes division chief Tim Carpenter has recently been appointed as Durkan’s new Group New Business Director.

 

Midlands Connect

Richard Bradley has recently joined Midlands Connect as Head of Strategy, he was previously Transport for the North’s Head of Data, Analysis and Appraisal.
