Description
Our client is a leading and profitable tier 1 civil engineering contractor. They are seeking a Senior Commercial Manager to lead a c£80m portfolio of civils projects and framework contracts.
Reporting into the Commercial Director, the Senior Commercial Manager will have significant influence within the business – leading a team of c30 commercial staff and making strategic contract decisions which will impact turnover and margin. They will maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and supply chain to maximise opportunities across contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Maximise value and improve margins across contracts.
- Ensure robust financial controls by addressing cost gaps and optimising cost recovery.
- Lead and inspire a team of commercial professionals, fostering accountability and innovation.
- Manage NEC4 contracts (including amended forms) to ensure compliance and effective delivery.
- Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to drive mutual success.
- Develop and implement proactive systems to solve problems and mitigate risks.
Skills & Experience
- Extensive commercial management experience at a civil engineering contractor (Rail, Highways, Water, Energy, Defence, Aviation etc)
- Proven ability to deliver improved margins and optimise contract performance.
- Strong leadership skills with a history of managing large teams.
- Expertise in NEC4 contracts and strategic decision-making.
- Solutions-focused, with exceptional financial management and negotiation skills.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar (RICS membership desirable).
