A leading contractor is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to take on the role of Managing Director for its rail business. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for a rail business, overseeing a workforce of employees across multiple business units.
  • Drive commercial performance, focusing on margin growth, market share expansion, and business development.
  • Develop and implement a long-term strategy to enhance operational excellence, innovation, and safety across all business units.
  • Lead and inspire high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Engage with key clients, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen relationships and secure future opportunities.
  • Represent the business at rail industry events, positioning the company as a leader in rail infrastructure.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in P&L leadership, ideally as a Managing Director or Senior Operations Director within a tier 1 contracting business.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering business growth, improved profitability, and operational efficiency.
  • Rail sector experience is desirable, but candidates from other regulated infrastructure sectors will be considered.
  • Ability to lead large, complex teams and drive cultural transformation within a high-performance environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging with clients, partners, regulators, and government bodies.
  • A modern leadership approach, with the ability to develop and mentor teams while driving innovation and best practice.
  • Strategic mindset with the future potential to progress within the leadership team.
  • High levels of self-awareness, humility, and intelligence, combined with strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
