Group Safety, Health & Environment Director

Our client, a major energy infrastructure asset owner and operator, has retained our services to recruit a Group Safety, Health and Environment Director. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing the safety, health and environment strategy across the organisation, with the goal of enhancing performance and fostering a zero-harm culture.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Group SHE Director will regularly collaborate with the Executive team and the board.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced health and safety leader to tackle strategic and long-term challenges within a large, safety-critical organisation.

 

Responsibilities

•       Develop and implement the safety, health and environment strategy across the organisation.

•       Define and deploy the annual, and 5-year, safety improvement plan.

•       Lead the Occupational Health team.

•       Gain the continued confidence of the Board and senior stakeholders in the effective management and continuous improvement of safety, health and environment.  

•       Provide advice on legal responsibilities and legislation, in particularly duties of operational managers.

•       Set and monitor the Level 2 safety assurance and compliance programmes.

•       Set the Health and Safety investigation and reporting regime across the organisation.

•       Have ownership of the enterprise and divisional risk registers relating to safety, health and environment.

 

Requirements

•       A master’s degree in health and safety and/or Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH).

•       Experience working in a safety-critical environment at senior level in safety, health and environment. Experience communicating and influencing at executive leadership level would be preferred.

•       Proven experience leading safety in either a large field force or multi-site organisation.

•       Ability to think tactically and strategically.

•       Assured communicator, comfortable influencing and communicating at both board level and with front line operational teams.

•       Proven track record of leading safety improvement and cultural change.
