South Western Railway retained our services initially to recruit an Operations Director. In this role, the successful candidate would be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for c3,000 staff across all activities related to train service delivery, customer service onboard trains and operational safety.
Paul is a Principal Consultant based in our London office focused on delivering search assignments across Transport, Infrastructure and Construction. Paul has successfully delivered search mandates across a variety of sectors including Construction, Technology, Rail, Highway and Airports. He began his career in executive search in Finance and Corporate Services, before joining Newsom Consulting in 2016. He graduated in Geography from the University of Sussex.
Richard joined Newsom Consulting in 2012, and focuses on senior appointments within the Rail, Infrastructure and Consulting markets. He began his career in executive search in 2003, working with two boutique search firms managing assignments across Construction, Energy, Infrastructure and Professional Services. Richard holds a Masters in Global Business Analysis from Manchester Business School.
Jim founded Newsom Consulting in 2010 and is our Managing Director. He specialises in senior appointments within Transport, Infrastructure and the Built Environment. Since he started his career in executive search in 1998, Jim has worked with clients across a range of sectors, including Rail, Aviation, Roads, Energy, Utilities and Construction. Prior to forming Newsom Consulting, Jim spent eleven years with one of the UK’s largest independently owned executive recruiters, progressing to Director of the London office and latterly Practice Director for Transportation, Construction and Infrastructure. Jim is a graduate in Civil Engineering from the University of Liverpool and is an Associate member of the ICE.
With over 20 years’ experience in industry, Kelly has enjoyed a successful career working in a number of executive and non-executive board roles. Kelly has a natural talent for coaching and mentoring which complements her professional HR and Occupational Psychology background.
Kelly is an accredited Executive Coach and Mentor with the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). Kelly is also a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) and is an active member of the Guildford Coaching Network.
In her coaching, Kelly helps her clients find solutions offering bespoke programmes of professional personal development and self discovery. Kelly works closely with her clients to agree and review regularly the outcomes for their programme. Kelly has a strong reputation for her candid and authentic style, she is known for being honest, open and challenging whilst being empathetic and supportive.

Kelly is a highly ethical coach, who is committed to her own personal and professional development. As well as studying for her coaching accreditation she works hard to maintain her networks, research new tools and techniques and is an active participant in her local coaching network. Kelly is also trained in psychometric assessments and enjoys utilising a variety of them in her coaching practice and is often trialling new methods, tools and techniques with a long-term view of incorporating into her programs.
