Movers and Shakers in Transport & Infrastructure – The headlines From June

June gave us the coalition of chaos. Theresa May’s snap election brought us yet more political uncertainty. Chances are we’ll be back in the polling stations by the end of the summer.

While Downing Street is shaking up the cabinet, let’s see who’s moving and shaking in transport and infrastructure:

Arriva Rail North
Transport for the North’s (TfN) Chief Executive David Brown has stepped down to become Managing Director of Arriva Rail North.

Buro Happold
Paul Rogers, who has been with the firm for 30 years is taking over from Dr Mike Cook as Senior Partner. He has most recently been Managing Director of Central Europe. His first move is to announce four new partners; Dr Sarah Prichard, George Kelris, Andrea Scotti and Zbigniew Czajewski.

Morgan Sindall
Simon Smith has been promoted to Managing Director of Nuclear, Energy and Water, from his previous role as Managing Director Utility Services.

Stuart Parker has been appointed as Managing Director – Construction Scotland, taking over from Harry Thorburn who retires at the end of the year.

Bristol Airport
Planning & Surface Access Director at Heathrow, Simon Earles has been appointed as Planning & Sustainability Director of Bristol Airport and will take up the role later this year.

Capita Real Estate & Infrastructure
Have appointed Peter Trebilcock as it’s Head of Architecture. He joins from Balfour Beatty where he was UK Design and BIM Programme Director.

DfT
Lucy Kavanagh has been appointed as Deputy Director responsible for analysis related to the environment, innovation, EU exit and regulation. She joins from SDG.

United Utilities
Simon Chadwick has been promoted to Central Operations Director, from his previous role as Wastewater Services Director.

Lagan Construction
Have announced that Nick Fletcher will be joining the business as Chief Operating Officer. Nick is currently Managing Director of Infrastructure, for Morgan Sindall is expected to take on the role in December 2017.

JN Bentley
Darren Ramsey has joined as a Director, he moves from J Murphy Group where he was Major Projects Director.

WSP
Darren Oldham takes on the position of Head of Transport Planning UK, following the acquisition and integration of Mouchel where he was Transport Planning Director.

WYG
Have announced that former Sweett Group Chief Executive Douglas McCormick has been appointed to succeed Paul Hamer as WYG’s Chief Executive. Hamer is leaving to take up the post of Chief Executive at Sir Robert McAlpine.

It has also been announced that Jeremy Beeton is to succeed Mike McTighe as WYG’s Chairman from September.

Atkins
Mike Batheram joins as Client Director, Local Government from WSP where he was Local Government Director.

Mark Fielding-Smith has been appointed as Digital Rail Director, moving from BAE Systems Applied Intelligence where he was Strategic Development Director.

J Murphy & Sons
David Brewer, Strategic Rail Market Director at Atkins will take-up a newly created role as Group Strategy and Communications Director at Murphy in August.

Van Elle
Lisa Smith joins as Rail Division Director. Lisa moves from Network Rail where she was Programme Manager.

Land Securities
Beth West joins the London based developer after more than 4 years as Commercial Director at HS2.

First Bus
Elaine Rosscraig has been appointed to the newly created position of Customer Service Improvement Director. Elaine joined from The TAS Partnership where she was Associate Management Consultant.

HMI Technologies
Richard Harris has been appointed as Director – Europe for the Intelligent Transport Systems firm. Joining from Conduent where he was Solutions Director.

Prior to forming Newsom Consulting, Jim spent 11 years working for the one of the UK’s largest independently owned executive recruiters and then two years at a boutique search firm. Jim is a graduate in civil engineering from Liverpool University.
