Movers and Shakers in Transport and Infrastructure – The Headlines from June

June has seen the Tory leadership race whittled down to its down to its final two contenders, and the media have been really asking the important questions this week… does Boris Johnson only own one pair of socks?

Only time will tell if Boris can pull those socks up and make the ultimate move of his political career, but until then, here are the movers and shakers in transport and infrastructure from June.

HS2

HS2 phase one Managing Director Jim Crawford is to leave the rail project after five years. Crawford is leaving to pursue other opportunities. HS2 said it has now started the process of appointing Crawford’s successor.

House of Commons

Matthew White has joined as Programme Delivery Director for the Palace of Westminster Restoration and Renewal programme. White leaves Crossrail where he has been Director, Crossrail Surface since 2011.

Cadent

The Chief Operating Officer of United Utilities, Steve Fraser, is leaving to head the Cadent Gas distribution network. Fraser starts as Chief Executive in the autumn after 14 years with United Utilities.

Bauer Technologies

Michael Jones returned to the role of Managing Director at Bauer Technologies, the foundations contractor he set up in 2007. His appointment followed the retirement of Martin Blower, who had led Bauer Technologies since 2014.

FM Conway

Michelle Bennett has been appointed as HR Director. She leaves Gratte Brothers where she has been Head of HR since 2017.

Arriva Group

Paul O’Neil joined as Managing Director, UK Bus in May. O’Neil leaves Rolls Royce where he was Executive Vice President (Original Equipment & MRO) – Civil Aerospace.

Andromeda Engineering

Have announced the appointment of Jeff Davies as its new Managing Director. Davies joined the company in January as Operations Director and prior to that was Network Rail’s Director of Route Asset Management and Safety for the Wales and Borders route.

Beacon Rail Leasing

Adam Cunliffe has joined as Chief Executive Officer. Cunliffe has most recently been the Chief Commercial Officer (UK & Europe) of Genesse & Wyoming and before that UK Managing Director for Freightliner Group.

Clara Gómez-Ferrer Navarro has also been appointed as their new CFO, joining from Noatum Ports in Spain.

SNC-Lavalin Atkins

Former WYG Director for Urban Design, Colin James, has moved to SNC-Lavalin Atkins as their Technical Director for Masterplanning.

Kier

Nick Shepherd Regional Operations Director for Kier Northern, has announced that he is leaving after 4 years in the role. Shepherd leaves to become Managing Director of Scunthrope-based Britcon, which is trying to grow its presence in the North East region.

Crossrail

Former HS2 Head of Health & Safety Area North, Carole Bardell, has joined Crossrail as H&S Director succeeding Martin Brown who retired at the end of last month.

Mott MacDonald

Have announced that Mike Haigh will be its new Group Chairman, succeeding Keith Howells who retires after 45 years. James Harris will take over from Haigh as Group Managing Director, and they will begin their new roles in July 2019.

BAE Systems

Former Crossrail boss Andrew Wolstenholme has left BAE Systems after just 12 months in the role of UK Managing Director of Maritime and Land, for personal reasons. A replacement has yet to be announced.

BAM Nuttall

Ruth Dunphy joins as Director of Finance. Dunphy was previously the CFO at National Nuclear Laboratory.

Deloitte

Dan McMillan has been made a Partner at Deloitte Consulting, having been with the company since 2011, most recently as Director – Technology, Consulting.

SPL Powerlines

Andrew Adams joins the electrification contractor as Head of HSQE. Adams leaves Thales where he was Senior HSE Manager.

As well as this, SPL have made some changes to their team in Scotland. David Bell is joining as Head of Commercial for Scotland. Bell was previously Senior Commercial Manager for Siemens Rail Automation and is due to start his new role in August. Lee Pounder also joins as Project Director, Scotland. He too leaves Siemens Rail Automation where he was Senior Project Manager.

Crest Nicholson

Tom Nicholson joins the housebuilder as Chief Operating Officer. He leaves Galliford Try where he has been Divisional Chairman for Linden Homes.

Durkan

Have announced that former Finance Director, Ronan Murphy, is to take up the position of Chief Executive. Murphy joined the company in 2015.

Lendlease

Current MD Construction (Europe), Neil Martin has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer for Europe, in a rejig following Dan Labbad’s departure to the Crown Estate in April. Martin joined the firm in 1990 and has been in charge of its European Construction Business since 2013. Lendlease are currently searching for his replacement.

DfT

Northampton North MP Michael Ellis has been appointed Minister of State at the DfT, replacing Jesse Norman who has moved to the Treasury to become Financial Secretary.

Sustrans

Have appointed John Lauder Deputy Chief Executive and National Director for Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Grace Martin takes Lauder’s old post as Scotland Director – she was Deputy Director for Scotland.

Homes England

Sir Edward Lister has been reappointed as Chair of Homes England for a further three years, following his previous three-year term as Chair of the agency.
