Movers and Shakers in Transport and Infrastructure – The Headlines from July

July saw England’s cricket team steal a victory from New Zealand at the very last moments of the world cup, two days of summer and of course, Boris is in No.10…

Let’s take a look at the major movers and shakers in transport and infrastructure from July…

Transport for London

Andy Lord has been announced as the new Managing Director of London Underground and TfL Engineering. Lord was previously Executive Vice-President for Menzies Aviation and will take up his new role in November.

Chief Financial Officer, Sarah Bradley, has also announced that she will leave the business this month. A replacement has yet to be announced.

Interserve

Alan Lovell has been appointed as Chairman, succeeding Glyn Barker who has stepped down after three years at the helm. Lovell was formerly Chief Executive of Costain, and was appointed as a Non-Executive Director at Amey in April this year.

Mark Morris also joins as their new Chief Financial Officer. Morris replaces Mark Whiteling who resigned in April after two years with the contractor. He joins from Seadrill where he was CFO.

CrossCountry Trains

Arriva have announced that Tom Joyner has been appointed as Managing Director of CrossCountry. He joined Arriva in 2017, as Managing Director of Arriva Train Wales before taking up a leadership role focused on developing a customer strategy for Arriva UK Trains.

Mott MacDonald

Cathy Travers succeeds James Harris as Managing Director of the UK and Europe regional business, after his appointment to Group Managing Director last month. Travers joined Mott MacDonald in 1990 and was most recently Managing Director of the buildings and infrastructure business in the UK and Europe.

Centrica

Chief Executive Iain Conn is to step down from his post and retire from the company’s board next year.

Rider Levett Bucknall

Andrew Stamps has been appointed as National Head of Infrastructure at Rider Levett Bucknall. He leaves Turner and Townsend where he has been a Director for Infrastructure in the Midlands.

Ports of Jersey

Matthew Thomas joins as CEO succeeding former CEO, Doug Bannister who stepped down in December 2018. Thomas joins from the Shannon Group in Ireland, where he was CEO.

Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA)

Former Vice President for Projects Engineering at Shell, Nick Smallwood, will become IPA Chief Executive in August, responsible for leading the delivery of major government projects. His appointment follows the departure of Tony Meggs in December 2018, who became Chairman of Crossrail.

AmcoGiffen

James Mendis has been appointed as Operations Director after joining earlier this year as a Regional Manager. Prior to joining AmcoGiffen, Mendis was Senior Project Manager at Taylor Woodrow.

Peter Brett Associates

Neil Lane has joined as Director of Intelligent Transport Systems UK. Lane was previously CH2M’s ITS Leader for Strategic Highways and has most recently been working as Project Lead for Cisco’s Smart Mobility Living Labs.

Keolis

Has announced a series of appointments to its UK business. Former Permanent Secretary of the Welsh government, Sir Derek Jones succeeds Sir Mike Hodgkinson as Chairman.

Nigel Stevens joins as Chief Operating Officer, he joins from Transdev where he was CEO for UK and Ireland.

Richard Graham has also been appointed as Performance Director, moving across from Keolis’s Boston business.

Highways England

Tim Jones is set to leave his position as Project Director of Lower Thames Crossing after two years in the post. A replacement has yet to be announced.

Govia Thameslink Railway

Jean Cockerill joins as People Director. She leaves TfL where she has been Director Business Partnering & Employee Relations.

Stagecoach

Deputy Chairman Will Whitehorn has announced that he will step down at the end of June next year. Ray O’Toole will succeed him in the role. O’Toole joined the board as a Non-Executive Director in 2016.

Go-Ahead Group

Have announced Clare Hollingsworth as its new Chair, succeeding Andrew Allner who is retiring. Hollingsworth leaves Eurostar where she has been Chair since 2013.

National Trust

Duncan Laird has left Arup where he was Director of Integrated City Planning to join National Trust as its Head of Urban Places.

WSP

Simeon Butterworth has joined as Client & Business Development Director in the Local Government division. He leaves Jacobs where he has been Executive Director of Operations.

Jacobs

Ian Brooker joins as Divisional Director for the logistics sector. Brooker joins from WSP where he has been Director of Logistics.

Lendlease

Have appointed Claire Pettett as Executive General Manager for construction in London. Pettett succeeds Alan Bates, who has become Programme Director in the company’s Italian business.

Taylor Wimpey

Irene Dorner will join the housebuilder as Chair, succeeding Kevin Beeston who is set to step down next February after 20 years at the firm. Dorner is the former Head of HSBC in the US.

Robertson

Have appointed former Graham Commercial Director, Alan Richardson, as its Commercial Director for the North-west of England.

Waterman Group

Paul Moore joins as Director for Infrastructure and Environment, London and Southern Counties. Moore joins from Ridge and Partners where he was Partner and Lead for the Transport Planning, Geo-Environmental, Flood Risk, Infrastructure and Engineering disciplines.
