Spring is upon us. No sooner had we finished the last Easter egg, when Theresa May shook up the nation with the snap election announcement. If you think you’re bored of seeing the inside of your local polling station, just spare a thought for the citizens of Northern Ireland who have already voted at two Assembly elections within the last 10 months!

Let’s take a look at who’s moving and shaking up the transport and infrastructure sectors this month:
National Express
Peter Coates, the Managing Director of National Express’ UK bus division, is retiring after 20 years with the company. Paul Thomas is to take over as Managing Director on 1st May.
Sir Robert McAlpine
Tony Gates has been appointed as Managing Director for Infrastructure. He leaves his position as Director for New Business at Balfour Beatty.
Ringway Jacobs
Mike O’Neill has been appointed as Managing Director of Ringway Jacobs. He leaves M+W Group where he was Operations Director.
Laing O’Rourke
Have appointed Anglo American Chairman Sir John Parker as its new Chairman. He will start his position later this year.
Balfour Beatty Rail
Colin Copson joins as Head of Estimating, leaving his position at VolkerRail after 11 years with the company.
Mott MacDonald
John Perry has retired from his post as Global Transport Leader with the Engineering Consultants. His successor has yet to be announced.
MTR Crossrail
David Payne has been promoted from Fleet Delivery Manager to Head of Fleet Delivery.
Unipart Rail
Noel Travers has been promoted to Managing Director. He joined the company in 2016 as Deputy Managing Director.
First Class Partnerships
Geoff Smith has joined as Partner. He joins from EY where he was Executive Director of the Infrastructure Sector Leadership team, UK&I Advisory Services.
National Infrastructure Commission
Lord Adonis has been appointed as Permanent Chair. The chancellor Phillip Hammond has also appointed Sir John Armitt as Deputy Chair and four new commissioners – Kate Barker, David Fisk, Andy Green and Julia Prescot.
TfL
Matthew Hudson moves internally to take on the position of Head of Strategy, Technology & Data. He previously held the role of Head of Business Development, Customer Experience.
Bovis Homes
Have appointed ex-Galliford Try boss Greg Fitzgerald as its new Chief Executive, at the same time as it turned down a takeover offer from the rival house builder. Greg retired from Galliford Try in 2014.
Nomenca
Gavin Stonard has joined the subsidiary of North Midland Construction Group as Engineering Director. He was previously Director of Water, Energy and Asset Management at Sweco.
