Movers and Shakers in Transport & Infrastructure – the headlines from April

Spring is upon us. No sooner had we finished the last Easter egg, when Theresa May shook up the nation with the snap election announcement. If you think you’re bored of seeing the inside of your local polling station, just spare a thought for the citizens of Northern Ireland who have already voted at two Assembly elections within the last 10 months!

While politics is forever in turmoil, thousands of runners inspired the country with their incredible achievements at the London marathon last weekend. If you were one of those who ran, please do email us with your chosen charity and we will make a donation.

Let’s take a look at who’s moving and shaking up the transport and infrastructure sectors this month:

National Express
Peter Coates, the Managing Director of National Express’ UK bus division, is retiring after 20 years with the company. Paul Thomas is to take over as Managing Director on 1st May.

Sir Robert McAlpine
Tony Gates has been appointed as Managing Director for Infrastructure. He leaves his position as Director for New Business at Balfour Beatty.

Ringway Jacobs
Mike O’Neill has been appointed as Managing Director of Ringway Jacobs. He leaves M+W Group where he was Operations Director.

Laing O’Rourke
Have appointed Anglo American Chairman Sir John Parker as its new Chairman. He will start his position later this year.

Balfour Beatty Rail

MTR Crossrail
David Payne has been promoted from Fleet Delivery Manager to Head of Fleet Delivery.

Unipart Rail
Noel Travers has been promoted to Managing Director. He joined the company in 2016 as Deputy Managing Director.

First Class Partnerships

TfL
Matthew Hudson moves internally to take on the position of Head of Strategy, Technology & Data. He previously held the role of Head of Business Development, Customer Experience.

Bovis Homes
Have appointed ex-Galliford Try boss Greg Fitzgerald as its new Chief Executive, at the same time as it turned down a takeover offer from the rival house builder. Greg retired from Galliford Try in 2014.

Thanks for supporting us in securing some of our industry’s leading talent. Your candidates are always excellent and I find you a pleasure to work with. Looking forward to furthering our partnership in the new year.

Managing Director (Transportation), Faithful+Gould

We recently worked with Newsom Consulting to recruit a key Director position for our UK leadership team. They understood our requirements well, spending time to come and meet with us so they could fully understand our needs. The longlist and shortlist reports were good and very user friendly. Assessment of candidates was accurate and we were presented with a good diverse selection of candidates with different backgrounds. The quality of candidates was first class and we were able to appoint a high-calibre candidate. The process was thorough and good value for money.

Managing Director, STRABAG UK

Since taking over as the CEO of Crossrail I have put a lot of effort into establishing the right leadership team to complete the project. Newsom Consulting have been a great partner in this work. Together we have worked to assemble a great new team  with the right energy and capability for one of the worlds most complex projects.

Jim and team are a real pleasure to work with; responsive and sensitive to our unique circumstances.
