Movers & Shakers – The headlines from March

March has been a turbulent month for Britain. The country stood united against terror after the Westminster attacks and the Prime Minister urged us to remain united as she triggered article 50.

Meanwhile, transport & infrastructure has also seen an eventful month, with CH2M pulling out of the controversial HS2 contract award to be the phase two Delivery Partner.

Let’s see who the major movers and shakers were in March:-

DfT

Permanent Secretary Philip Rutnam is to become Permanent Secretary at the Home Office. Jonathan Moor, Director General of the DfT’s Resources Strategy Group, will take on the position of Acting Permanent Secretary DfT in the Interim.

Former Merseytravel Director of Resources, Jim Barclay has been appointed as Lead Negotiator for the West Coast franchise continuation award.

DfT’s Director General for HS2, David Prout, is leaving to take up the position of Pro-Vice Chancellor for Planning at the University of Oxford.

Network Rail

Jason Bridges will join in May as Chief Operating Officer of the Wessex Route. He joins from Network Rail Consulting where he is Operations Consultant for the Middle East.

Nexus

Chris Carson has been appointed Metro Services Director. He has been the Operations and Safety Director at DB Regio since February 2016.

Huw Lewis has been appointed as Customer Services Director, he previously held the position of Corporate Manager for Customer Services and Communications.

SNC Lavalin

Matt Phillips has been promoted to Director, Rail Infrastructure Systems. In this newly created role, Matt is joined by three new leadership positions; Head of Control Systems – Martin Fenner, Head of Route (Track and Civils) Systems – Paul Marshall, and Head of Energy Systems – Nick Snell.

Stephen Pell has been promoted to Head of Rolling Stock Engineering.

Iceni Projects

Hires Dan Jestico as Director of Sustainable Development. He joins from Hilson Moran where he was Head of Research and Development.

McLaren Technology Group

Have appointed Jamie Foster as Group Procurement Director. He joins from Hitachi Rail.

Highways England

Appoint Bob Stevens as Head of Planning. He joins from Carillion where he has been Principal Planning Manager since 2012.

Flybe

Have promoted Tiago Grilo to General Manager for Europe, from his previous role as Ground Operations Manager for Europe.

Manchester City Council

Chief Executive Sir Howard Bernstein is retiring this month after nearly 20 years in the top role.

Morgan Tucker Engineering Consultants

Matthew Tucker is stepping down as Managing Director, having founded the company in 2005. He will be replaced by Steve Hall.

Transport Systems Catapult

Steve Yianni has stepped down as Chief Executive after 3 and a half years. Mark Ruddy has taken over as Interim CEO.

Metrolink

Danny Vaughn has been promoted to Head of Metrolink, succeeding Peter Cushing. Danny has been Peter’s deputy since 2013.

Van Elle Group

Van Elle has revealed that group Managing Director Thomas Lindup has left the company to pursue new opportunities. He will not be directly replaced and his responsibilities will be absorbed by senior colleagues on the executive management team.

Kier
Infrastructure Managing Director Jag Paddam has left the group following an internal management review. Sean Jeffery, Executive Director Kier Infrastructure, will now also assume his duties as part of a restructure.

Interserve

Has appointed Debbie White as its new Chief Executive. She will replace current Chief Executive Adrian Ringrose, who announced in November that he would be stepping down.

Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure

Have appointed Dave Spencer as Managing Director from June 2017. He rejoins Capita from Amey where he is currently Managing Director of its consulting business.

Merril Lynch

Martyn Briggs has been appointed as Vice President of a newly created mobility research department. He leaves business consulting firm Frost & Sullivan.

Louis Berger

Darren Carpenter moves from SNC-Lavalin to take on the position of Engineering Director – Major Projects, based in Saudi Arabia.

Arriva

Stuart Cockburn joins as Strategy and Development Director. He leaves broadcasting and telecoms company Arqiva.

C2C

Joel Mitchell has been appointed as Delivery Director, he joins c2c from First Hull Trains where he was Director of Operations & Customer Experience.

Clancy Consulting

Has appointed Chris Lewis as Divisional Director to lead the team in the multidisciplinary consultant’s Newcastle office. He moves from AECOM.

SYPTE

Ben Gilligan has been appointed as their new Director of Public Transport. Gilligan was Managing Director of First South Yorkshire and First York from 2013 to 2015. Since then he has run his own consultancy.

Jim is a graduate in civil engineering from Liverpool University.
