Movers and Shakers in Transport & Infrastructure- The headlines from October

This week “Hand out Hammond” committed to investing £25.5bn on England’s roads; including £420 million earmarked just for potholes, put an end to PFI and promised £500m for the Housing Infrastructure Fund.

While the figures are nothing to be sniffed out, overall it’s not a hugely exciting budget for the transport and infrastructure sectors.

In other news, October has been a busy one for movers and shakers within the industry…

Office of Rail and Road (ORR)

After three years as Chief Executive at ORR, Joanna Whittington has announced she is leaving to take on the role of Director General, Energy and Security at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. She will be replaced by John Larkinson who will act in an interim role.

TfGM

Chief Executive, Jon Lamonte has announced that he will be leaving to join Sydney Metro as its new CEO. During Lamonte’s time at TfGM, he has overseen the Metrolink expansion programme and led development of the Leigh guided busway.

London Stansted Airport

Manchester Airport Group have appointed former London Underground COO, Steve Griffiths, as Chief Operating Officer of London Stansted Airport. Griffiths leaves Oliver Wyman where he has been a Senior Advisor.

Anglian Water

Former Kier Managing Director Paul Fletcher has joined Anglian Water to lead the @oneAlliance. Fletcher joined the firm in September and will formally take over as Director of the alliance in January. He replaces Dale Evans, who will move to a consultancy post after 15 years in the role.

HS2

In a shake-up of their non-executive boardroom, HS2 have parted ways with Non-Executive Directors; Christine Emmett, Neil Masom, Duncan Sutherland and Baroness Jo Valentine. The search for three new Non-Executive board members began at the end of last month.

Mike Luddy has also joined as Director for Stations. Luddy, who was Project Director for London and Continental Railways during the rebuild of St Pancras station, has most recently been Managing Director at London Royal Docks.

The Clancy Group

Have announced Matt Cannon as its new Chief Executive to replace Seamus Keogh, who has held the role for two years. Keogh will step down at the end of January, following a 30-year career with the firm. Cannon, who is nephew of owners Kevin and Dermot Clancy, becomes the third generation of the Clancy family to take charge at the group. He is currently Chief Operating Officer.

Mace

Have announced that their Head of Bids for Construction, Jeremy Brim, will depart the business to start his own consultancy, as well as taking on a business development position at Morgan Sindall.

The company have also appointed Stewart Ward to lead its fit-out business Mace Interiors. Ward who joins from Morgan Sindall fit-out subsidiary Overbury.

Lovell

Have announced that Stuart Gibbons has been appointed as Managing Director for London. He leaves Galliford Try where he was Partnerships and Regeneration Managing Director.

EngineeringUK

Have announced the appointment of Dr Hilary Leevers as its new Chief Executive. Leevers, who will join the organisation in January, is currently Head of Education and Learning at Wellcome.

Heathrow Airport

Tony Caccavone has been announced as Surface Access Director at the airport. Caccavone joined Heathrow in 2011 and was most recently Expansion Airline Strategy Director.

Richard Stoodley joins Heathrow as PMO Director for Heathrow’s existing development activities. Stoodley leaves ARCADIS where he has been on secondment to Highways England as Head of Cost Planning for Lower Thames Crossing.

Score Group

Have appointed former Carillion boss Keith Cochrane as its Non-Executive Chairman. Cochrane was drafted in as Interim Chief Executive of Carillion following Richard Howson’s departure last year.

Rider Levett Bucknall

Steve Gillingham has joined the architecture practice as Partner and National Head of Public Sector. He leaves Mace where he was Regional Director for Northern England & Scotland.

Crossrail

Have announced the appointment of London Underground Managing Director Mark Wild as Simon Wright’s successor as CEO, as the project enters its final stages.

Wild, who has served as London Underground MD since June 2016, will return to his role at the transport body once the Elizabeth line has opened.

London Underground’s Director of Network Operations, Nigel Holness, will take on the Managing Director role while Wild is at Crossrail. Holness was due to leave London Underground to become Metro Trains Sydney Deputy Chief Executive, but will now do so at a later date.

Turner & Townsend

Tania Flasck joins as Infrastructure Director to head up operations in Birmingham where she will oversee major project programmes like HS2. She joins from Jacobs where she was European Vice President Solutions and Technology for Europe.

Atkins

Nathan Marsh has taken up the role of Director – Digital Transformation UK & Ireland. He moves internally from his previous role as Director of Intelligent Mobility.

Construction Leadership Council

Tideway boss Andy Mitchell has been appointed as Co-Chairman of the Construction Leadership Council. Mitchell, who will remain Chief Executive of Tideway, will replace former Crossrail boss Andrew Wolstenholme, who steps down after nearly three years in the CLC role.

The Gallagher Group

Have appointed Persimmon Regional Chairman and former Rider Levett Bucknall Chief Executive, Lance Taylor, as its new CEO. He replaces Nick Yandle in the role, who announced he would step down in August.

Argent

Have appointed former Laing O’Rourke Development and Design Director, Mark Shirburne-Davies, as its new Head of Construction to oversee all Argent’s projects and those of its Argent Related joint venture.

This comes after the announcement that Managing Partner David Partridge will step back from the day-to-day running of the business once its King’s Cross development is completed. Partridge will move to become Chairman of the Argent Related joint venture once the project has finished.

London Southend Airport

Willie McGillivray has joined as Chief Operating Officer. He leaves Turner & Townsend where he has been since 2016.

Ferrovial Agroman UK

Have appointed Andres Blanco Diez as Finance Director, Blanco Diez, who has been with the group for 20 years replaces Jose Melchor who left the UK business last month.

TAS Partnership

Sarah Huntley has been appointed as Managing Director of the public transport consultancy. She succeeds Adrian Grant who retired earlier this month. Huntley has been Deputy Managing Director for the last two years.

InMotion Ventures

The venture capital fund of Jaguar Land Rover have announced that Joseph Seal-Driver has been appointed as Entrepreneur in Residence. Seal-Driver was the dockless bike hire company ofo’s former General Manager for the UK.

Transport for Wales

Simon Rhoden has been appointed as Infrastructure Services Director where he will be responsible for delivering the Core Valley Lines transformation.

Ferrovial Agroman UK
