But who’s making the movers and shakers headlines this month in transport and infrastructure…
HS2
AECOM’s Chief Executive of Civil Infrastructure, Richard Robinson, has been appointed as HS2’s new Chief Operating Officer. He is expected to join HS2 in the autumn.
Sir Terry Morgan has been appointed as Chairman taking over from Sir David Higgins. Morgan will take on this new role alongside his current role at Crossrail where he has been Chairman since 2009.
Michael Bradley, CB, is also joining the company as Chief Financial Officer. He comes from Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), where he is CFO and Director General Resources, and has been Acting CEO since December 2017.
They have also appointed Sir Mark Worthington as its new Permanent Construction Commissioner. Worthington, who was Baroness Thatcher’s private secretary from 1992 to 2013, will provide impartial decisions on complaints and look to build better relationships between communities, local authorities, HS2 and its contractors.
AECOM
Transport Director, Colin Wood, has been promoted to Chief Executive for Civil Infrastructure in place of Richard Robinson, who has joined HS2. Wood, who is currently UK & Ireland Managing Director for Transport, will take up the position with immediate effect.
Network Rail
Have brought in David Noyes, former British Airways Director, as a Non-Executive Director to replace Michael O’Higgins, who is set to retire towards the end of August.
Arup
Stefan Sanders has moved internally to lead Arup’s growth in their planning and advisory services across South East Asia, Andrew Went will succeed him as UK, Middle East and Africa Rail Business Leader.
The Welsh Government
Have appointed John Lloyd Jones OBE as Chair of the National Infrastructure Commission for Wales for one year.
The Scottish Government
Michael Matheson has been appointed Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity. He was Cabinet Member for Justice.
Transport for Wales
Alexia Course has joined as Director of Rail Operations. She leaves Network Rail where she has been Route Programme Director (Change) since 2016.
West Yorkshire Combined Authority
Kim Groves has been appointed as Chair of WYCA’s Transport Committee succeeding Keith Wakefield.
Keolis Amey Metrolink
David Nicholls has been appointed HSQE Director for Metrolink. He moved internally from Keolis Amey Docklands where he has been HSQE Director since 2014.
Aspin
Have brought in former Costain rail boss Gren Edwards as its new Chairman. Edwards served as Rail Director at Costain up until December last year when he was replaced by Mace’s Director of Highways Ian Parker.
Stantec
Have appointed Tim Williams as Strategic Growth and Business Development Director for water to focus on the strategic growth of Stantec’s water business across the UK. Williams joins from Welsh Water where he is Head of Asset Strategy & Planning.
Keltbray
Mike Snee has been brought back in to the contractor to lead its newly created Distribution & Transmission business. Snee left Keltbray in 2017 and returns from SPIE where he has been UK Director of Distribution and Transmissions Operations.
Stagecoach Bus
Chris Coleman has been appointed as Managing Director of Stagecoach Oxfordshire, succeeding Martin Sutton who is retiring in September. Coleman moves from Stagecoach Rail where he has been working on the group’s rail strategy.
Reading Buses
Robert Williams has been announced as the new Chief Executive succeeding Martijn Gilbert who was appointed as MD of Go-North East back in May. Williams moves from Stagecoach South West where he has been Commercial Director and is expected to start in October.
Kier
Nigel Brook, Executive Director – Construction and Infrastructure Services and Nigel Turner, Executive Director – Development and Property Services have left after a reshuffle saw Claudio Veritiero promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Both have left with immediate effect.
Former Carillion Managing Director James Hindes has also joined Kier as Managing Director of Aviation and Defence. Hindes was Managing Director for Carillion’s southern region before its collapse earlier this year.
Hitachi Rail Europe
Jim Brewin has been appointed as Head of Group CEO office. Brewin joined Hitachi in 2008 and has most recently been Head of Business Development.
Arriva Group
Sharon Keith has been appointed as Director of Corporate and Social Responsibility. She has been Regional Director at Arriva Rail North since 2016.
Direct Rail Services
Chris Connelly has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Before that he was Commercial and Business Development Director.
Eurostar
Have appointed Dan Barrett as Head of Engineering, Barrett leaves Trenitalia where he has been Engineering Director of c2c since 2015.
SIG
Have appointed Alan Lovell, former Chief Executive of Costain and Cyrille Ragoucy, former Chief Executive of Tarmac as Non-Executive Directors as it implements a turnaround plan.
BAM Construct
Have appointed two Regional Directors for London and the Midlands. Rod Stiles has been named Regional Director for London, having previously served as the Midlands Director. David Ellis will succeed him as Regional Director for the Midlands. Both have been with the company for more than 20 years.
Beacon Rail Leasing
Ross Shepherd has joined as Engineering Director. He leaves Eversholt Rail where he was Head of Fleet Strategy.
Align JV
Neil Hancox joins the HS2 joint venture as Director of Health and Safety. Hancox has most recently been HSSE Director at Tideway London.
