Movers and Shakers in Transport & Infrastructure – The Headlines from December 2020

2020 was certainly an eventful year, as we move into the new year after all enjoying a well-deserved break over Christmas, we are optimistic that we will continue to see the Transport & Infrastructure sectors thriving in 2021.

Kier

Kier Construction has appointed Bouygues UK Residential Managing Director for a “performance role” to help push for growth in their regional Midlands division.  Chris Stevens will be joining Kier in January after 13 years at Bouygues UK.

 

AECOM

Jon Robinson has recently been promoted to Head of Water, UK & Ireland at AECOM after three years as their Strategy Director, Water Ports & Power, UKI.

 

Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy

Kwasi Kwarteng has been appointed as the UK government’s new Construction Minister, he will be succeeding Nadhim Zahawi who will become Minister for Vaccine Deployment.

 

Department for Transport

David Hughes will be joining the DfT as their new Director General, Rail Infrastructure in January. David will be leaving his current role as Strategy and Programme Director at Transport for the North.

 

South Western Railway

Claire Mann will be joining SWR this year as Managing Director.  She will be taking over from Mark Hopwood who is currently interim Managing Director of SWR as he will be returning to his role as Managing Director of GWR in January. Mike Houghton CEO of SWR will be covering the role of Managing Director until Claire joins.

 

Story Contracting

Story have appointed Bobby Forbes to be Commercial Director of its Story Scotland division. Bobby brings over 30 years of experience and joins the business from Babcock Rail after 16 years as Commercial Director.

 

Gleeds

Paul Knighting has joined Gleeds as their new Director – Head of UK Infrastructure. Paul leaves Turner & Townsend after four years as North West Infrastructure Lead.

 

Faithful+Gould

Rob Whitham joins Faithful+Gould as Regional Director to help drive growth in the North West Transportation sector, he leaves a 6-year long career at Turner and Townsend where he was working as Associate Director.

 

Persimmon Homes

After stepping down as CEO of Costain in 2019, Andrew Wyllie has recently been appointed as Non-Executive Director of housebuilder Persimmon.

 

Offshore Wind Industry Council

Danielle Lane, Vattenfall’s UK Country Manager will be taking over as Co-Chair of the joint Government and industry body. She will be succeeding Ørsted’s Benj Syke who has successfully led the offshore wind sector for the past six and a half years.

 

SWARCO

John Pickworth has recently been appointed as Managing Director at SWARCO Traffic, he leaves his two-year role as Intelligent Transport Director at Pell Frischmann.

WSP

In the new year Blair Mitchell will be leading a combined team of all water specialisms across its UK business from January, Blair leaves his 7-year role as Business Director and Partner for Arcadis’ water sector.

 

Amey

Karen Hopley has recently been appointed to Amey’s Transport Infrastructure executive team as their new HR Director, she leaves her role as HR Transformation Director at G4S.

 

PA Consulting

Greg Bradley joins PA Consulting as Partner, Energy and Utilities, after leaving his 10-year role as Partner, Managing Director – Business Transformation at Arcadis.

 

Murphy & Sons

Ex Carillion and Morgan Sindall Finance Director Joe Ledwidge has recently been appointed as CFO at Murphy Group. Joe joins Murphy after 8 years as Finance Director at Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure.

 

British Transport Police

Lucy D’Orsi has been appointed as Chief Constable of the British Transport Police and will be taking up her appointment early in the New Year. She succeeds Paul Crowther CBE who is due to retire in February 2021 after 40 years of service.

 

Rail Delivery Group

After nearly 2 and a half years at RDG Andy Bagnall has moved internally to become Director General, prior to this he was Rail Delivery Group’s Chief Strategy Officer.

 

Van Elle

David Buckley joins Van Elle as their new Rail Director after 13 years at Balfour Beatty where he was most recently Director and General Manager for OMNICOM.

 

Regan Weaver Brothers

Former Careys CEO Steve Regan has recently founded civil engineering contracting firm Regan Weaver Brothers of which he is now Managing Director.

 

Mabey Hire Ltd

Mabey welcomed Tony O’Donnell to the team as Engineering Director after 26 years with Morgan Sindall. Tony succeeds David Holland who will be moving into the role of Monitoring and Technical Director.

 

ITSO

Steve Holden has been appointed as ITSO’s CEO with immediate effect, he will be succeeding Steve Wakeland who will complete his transition to Non-Executive Chairman.

 

McCann & Co

J McCann & Co have recently appointed Clive Leadbetter as their new Highways Director. Clive was previously Water Sector Operations Director at Costain and Managing Director at A-one+.

Prior to forming Newsom Consulting, Jim spent 11 years working for the one of the UK’s largest independently owned executive recruiters and then two years at a boutique search firm. Jim is a graduate in civil engineering from Liverpool University.
