Flowbird Group are a leading transport technology provider, recently rebranded from Parkeon, in the growing market of Smart Ticketing. They retained our services to recruit a Global Director of Sales & Marketing for the Transportation business unit. Reporting to the Managing Director, the role was to lead Flowbird’s international sales strategy, managing and liaising with colleagues across the UK, France, the US, Spain and Australia.
This role required extensive market mapping research to target both candidates at competitors UK wide and also relevant businesses in other industries located within a commutable distance of their UK HQ in Poole. We used a range of business databases to help find relevant businesses in allied industries that provide B2B technology solution that require significant software engineering and system integration based in either Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and Wiltshire. We also researched transport technology firms and major IT consulting firms with transport practices using our extensive network of contacts to identify the right people.
When approaching candidates it was essential to challenge them on the detail of what they were selling. As software systems projects were becoming increasingly significant to Flowbird’s business, they needed an individual who was selling B2B and understood solution selling; developing a tailored solution to the customers problem, whilst ensuring it would remain within Flowbird’s capability to deliver. We found that our client received positive feedback, and had a good reputation in the transport technology space. Despite the limiting factor of location (commutable to Flowbird’s offices in Poole), 3 of the 5 candidates on the shortlist lived within half an hour of our client’s office.
We were successful in recruiting a candidate with 20 years sale’s experience in the transport technology sector, living close to our client’s office. Moreover, the successful candidate had experience of selling technology products to the public transport sector, managing large teams and operating in an international environment.
